Artmøsphere - It Explodes on 11th August. Bønehead 's EP laced with 303

Updated: Aug 7, 2023

'Artmøsphere' revolves around a fictional apocalyptic future that leads humanity to migrate to another planet. The EP starts off as a flashback to what the skies were like on planet earth before it was consumed by the war of the machine & nuclear fallout, progresses into a select few humans taking off into space, finding a new habitable planet & eventually ends with whatever is left of our species accepting their new home.

What is the inspiration behind this EP?

The inspiration for the album was to create a resolution for the story of my previous EP, ‘Elektrømagnetik’ which was based around a dystopian future that led to nuclear war. 'Artmøsphere' is the story that revolves around our species migrating to another planet. The EP starts off as a flashback to what the skies were like on planet Earth before it was consumed by the war of the machine & nuclear fallout, progresses into a select few humans taking off into space, finding a new habitable planet & eventually ends with whatever is left of our species accepting their new home.

An instrument or device that has been monumental in this EP?

There’s a lot of different sounds used on this EP. A lot of layering of synths involved & quite a bit of 303 sound on most of the tracks. I have grown to use the 303 sound melodically (sometimes it’s analogous to a lead guitar) instead of just creating a rhythm with it. There’s some progressive layering of synths and a lot of unusual drums used. There’s also some heavy, distorted bass guitar that was recorded for this EP.

For the 303 sounds, I used one of my favorite synths by Ronan Fed called Essence, which came in handy for creating some of the chord progressions as well. For the mellow synth sounds, I have used Phonec by Psychic Modulation, as it’s exceptionally great at recreating the kind of artifacts you find with analog hardware. The low end is very clean on this EP, courtesy of SubLab by Future Audio Workshop, and of course there are some stock Ableton sounds created through Wavetable as well. The drums are mostly stock Ableton packs & some sounds I've collected over the years. This EP has a lot of samples used as well, From NASA recordings (From the moon landing to the Apollo 17 Mission, which is also used in a very famous Daft Punk track) to TV interviews (With American singer Ricke Lee Jones in which she recalls picturesque images of her childhood. The samples are widely believed to have come from a conversation between Jones and LeVar Burton on the children's television program Reading Rainbow) & one-sided phone call recordings.

How soon can we expect your next release and what is that going to be about?

I think I'm going to take some time out before I publish my next release. I have a very drum centric LP in the works & another concept EP that’s a follow-up to 'Artmøsphere'. My label, however, will remain active, & there’s an old-school techno record coming out at the end of this month & an ambient electronic LP in September!
