In hopes of establishing a new world on an extraterrestrial planet, humanity discovers a race of alien overlords that enslaves them in a digital world, reducing them to mere playable characters in their version of an arcade machine. This EP is a journey through a game that ends the saga with the last of mankind stuck in a never ending battle with a simulation. Blending mainstream techno with genres like Psy, Acid, Trance & Tech House, Metatønik is a unique adventure for the listeners.
What is the inspiration behind this EP? How did you come up with the name?
The inspiration behind this record was to tie up all loose ends in the saga and give the story an ending that is open to interpretation. The name was inspired by the metaverse and the catatonic state of humanity that exists in this world. The duality of the personalities between a person’s avatar and his reality are really disturbing.
How did you overcome challenges with this EP? If there were any.
The main challenge involved in the production of this record was balancing some of the elements and mixing the tracks since the sound I was going with was a little different than what I usually work with. The only way to overcome this challenge was to test the mix on different types of equipment and trust my ears.
An instrument or device that has been monumental in this EP? And why?
A lot of instruments have been used on this record so I can't really point out anything specific. There’s a lot of 303 & Reese bass involved there’s a few new Max for Live devices i have used as well along with some new drums that fit the hypnotic vibe of the EP. In addition to the instruments there was a lot of post processing done to shape the sound including, but not limited to gating, transient shaping, panning, grain delay, ping pong delay & a lot of filters.
How soon can we expect your next release, and what is that going to be about?
The next release is dropping on Friday the 13th and it’s my first solo LP titled ‘Cyanidrumachine’
. I'm super excited to release it and I feel like its’ my most experimental work yet. As the title suggests, its core theme is the drums and since I started my musical journey with drums & percussion this one is really close to home, I'll probably end up writing another one.
