BRCast 80: Befree Recording Label Showcase
Updated: Jun 4
What made you create this label? Why? What is the idea and inspiration behind it?
I've always had the dream of creating my own record label and above all I needed to give space to many new talents who sometimes don't have the space they actually deserve more than many other more famous producers. In this period where there is no more sound research and where everyone copies everyone, my greatest satisfaction is to discover new artists who will become famous over time

How long had the idea of a label been on your minds before its official launch? What were the challenges running up to its launch?
Be Free Recordings was born in 2011. The first few years didn't have great results and sometimes there were more losses than gains but I never backed down and over the years we have seen continuous growth that we never expected! The coolest thing was that of a famous producer whose names we won't name who initially asked us for 1000 euros for a remix and after a few years he contacted us again asking us if he could do it for free. this was our greatest satisfaction
What is the inspiration behind the log and artwork?
The logo was designed to give a sense of freedom in what we want to publish and in the choices we want to make. We have always ranged over several musical genres (from Melodic Techno to Ambient) without thinking about what people might like but we have always felt free to bring what we really like without thinking about current musical trends
What genre of music the label hosts and what do you look for specifically in a track that gives you that sense of belonging in a track to release it on your platform?
when I listen to the demos I must like them from the first listen. We don't have a rationale about the genre we want to release, but we definitely want something that touches our heart and soul. We always try to bring something new to the listener and the melodic line is our main characteristic behind our label
In terms of demos, how do you accept, review and reject from all the thousands you receive?
We receive a lot of demos especially in this period. Unfortunately we can't respond to every demo they send us, but one thing is for sure, we listen to all the demos unlike other labels. we believe that behind a track there is always a work of a young producer and that it deserves to be heard.
How many VA and compilations do you release in a year and what kind of tracks you choose?
We have released one VA and this year the second VA will be released with young talent coming out on a record label for the first time we are happy to give space to emerging producers and we are sure that they will soon make themselves known
Which one has been a highlight release and why?
There isn't an important release in particular but surely the one that gave us the most satisfaction over time was the remix of the ARTBAT when they weren't known yet! And in knowing that Artur and Batish have now become international, fills us with joy and makes us understand that even if be free recordings is a small label perhaps what we are doing we are doing well
What do you expect from new talent when you sign them? What makes you reject them from releasing on your label?
We hope to always find new young producers who are able to bring something different from the usual sound! as I said before its easy to copy others but the hardest thing is to dare a personality to your own sound! we need artists who have the ability to dare!
From your country, which other label is pushing the same music as you are and how do you think everyone is helping push the local producers?
I have a lot of respect for Ciro Acciarino and Erly Tepshi's Blackrose label. They are doing very well and there is a lot of respect from me for what they are doing and for the emerging artists they are featuring.
What kind of support do you look for from artists and other parties in promoting your music worldwide?
I tell you the truth! Be Free is an Italian label but in reality its success comes from many other countries of the world and except in Italy. it might seem absurd but this is the truth :D
